Dramatic Growth of Open Access June 30, 2010
The June 30, 2010 issue of my Dramatic Growth of Open Access series is now available here. Highlights: OA policy continues to lead the dramatic growth story; both institutional and total OA mandates have more than doubled over the past year. The Directory of Open Access Journals exceeded the milestone of over 5,000 journals this quarter; this means about 20% of the world’s peer-reviewed journals are now open access. BASE added 1.5 million documents this quarter, or about half a million documents per month. Bjork et al reported in PLoS One that about 1 in 5 articles are now freely available.
